Internship Highlight – Yannick Alexis

Posted by Christopher Lester

Hello CSS Community: My name is Yannick Alexis and I am currently a sophomore pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Protection Engineering. This past summer I had the opportunity to intern at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab (APL). It was a great experience as I was able to expand my horizons by gaining experience in working with server set-up and virtual machine installations.

The Applied Physics Lab’s  campus was extremely robust with a variety of activities, learning opportunities, events, and classes which in turn fostered innovation and bonding amongst interns. In fact, I still communicate with my fellow interns to this day. At the beginning of my internship, I was nervous about my ability to complete the tasks delegated to me due to my lack of experience. By the end of the internship, I was more than comfortable completing all tasks. This internship provided me with an immense amount of real world experience. Overall, I would say working at the APL was a great experience where I was able to make connections, grow personally, and grow professionally.

CSS Scholar & Team Leader,
Yannick Alexis

Scholar Testimonials

Troy Shuman, Esq.
Class of 2012

The University of Maryland, College Park played a transformative role in my life. College Park Success Scholars was one of the essential components of my college experience. CSS provided me with ready access to leadership opportunities, brotherhood, and encouraged me to aim high. The support that I received helped me achieve a well-rounded college experience. Since my graduation from college, I attended law school on a full-tuition honors scholarship and I am now an attorney. Without the strong foundation provided by CSS and the University of Maryland, College Park my achievements would not have been possible.
