Internship Highlight – Nene Narh-Mensah

Posted by James Lepinsky

My name is Nene Narh-Mensah and I’m a member of the 2019 cohort who studies journalism at the university. This past summer I completed a virtual internship with Diamond Kut Media, an online music and culture publication. The experience was engaging.

The internship lasted from July to October. I wrote stories for their Kool Korner blog including track and album reviews as well as interviews with up-and-coming artists. I even had the pleasure of interviewing another CSS scholar who makes music himself. During my time at Diamond Kut, I learned how to be more effective with my time management and write more expressively. The internship required me to release reviews quickly, detailing all the elements that make up the songs in an appealing way. Repeating that process was a great foray into the field of journalism.

Interning at Diamond Kut gave me great insight on how to improve my writing and manage my time; I will take this insight with me into the workforce.

Scholar Testimonials

Patrick Williams
Class of 2011

Participating in the College Success Scholars program was the single most influential experience during my time as an undergraduate at the University of Maryland. Dr. Lester and the staff of OMSE pushed and inspired me to attain heights and successes that I would have never actualized or even conceived on my own. I became a better student as well as an empowered man through this program. I gained the confidence and support that I needed to achieve great things in our world. I will do everything within my power to ensure that young men continue to benefit from this phenomenal program.
