Hello CSS Community: My name is Jovany Joya and I am a senior pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology. My career goal is to become a physical therapist. During the Spring of 2017, I began shadowing my supervisor at ATI Physical Therapy in College Park, MD. In May, I was offered a position to become a rehab technician. After working for ATI during the summer, I was offered the opportunity retain my position and continue working at ATI. As a rehab technician, I am responsible for getting every patient through numerous workouts which focus on mobility, strengthening, or stretching. I am also responsible for answering phone calls and filling out any paperwork for any new or existing patients. I have learned a tremendous amount from working at ATI and plan to continue working for ATI once I am a certified therapist.

I have been a part of different campus organizations throughout my undergraduate years and even now, in my second year of medical school, and from my experiences thus far, there is no program that comes close to the academic and professional development programs offered by College Success Scholars (CSS). Not only did CSS help me develop high expectations, it provided the help I needed to meet those expectations. Through the counseling and workshops, I felt empowered to achieve my goals. Sometimes it was difficult to see the vision the leadership of CSS was trying to impart, but looking back now, I can see it. I am proud to be a CSS alumni.
