Internship Highlight – Isaiah Duncan

Posted by Christopher Lester

My name is Isaiah Duncan and I am a Senior graduating in May 2021. I interned at Microsoft during the summer of 2020. My internship at Microsoft helped me to develop many skills, exposed me to new technologies, and has prepared me for my post-grad professional life.

My internship lasted for twelve weeks. During it, I was involved with the Linux Kernel CI team which is a collaborative team of people who work for different companies. I was responsible for updating and improving documentation as well as successfully implementing features and resolving issues for the Linux Kernel CI project. I also had the opportunity to network with people within and outside of my team at Microsoft, allowing me to better understand the work culture there and also allowing me to hear about the experiences of other software engineers and employees at Microsoft. I learned the importance of taking initiative, and also gained experience with new technologies during this internship.

Since I will be returning to Microsoft full time, this experience is extremely valuable as it allowed me to experience firsthand and enjoy the work culture for software engineers at Microsoft. It exposed me to the work of different software engineering roles such as DevOps and it lit the path for me to begin exploring within my field.

Scholar Testimonials

Patrick Williams
Class of 2011

Participating in the College Success Scholars program was the single most influential experience during my time as an undergraduate at the University of Maryland. Dr. Lester and the staff of OMSE pushed and inspired me to attain heights and successes that I would have never actualized or even conceived on my own. I became a better student as well as an empowered man through this program. I gained the confidence and support that I needed to achieve great things in our world. I will do everything within my power to ensure that young men continue to benefit from this phenomenal program.
