Internship Highlight– Immanuel Garcia

Posted by Christopher Lester

Hello CSS Community!

My name is Manny Garcia. I am a junior in the Computer Science major at the University of Maryland. I have interned at Northrop Grumman as a Software Engineer for the past two summers. I’m grateful for my internship experience at Northrup Grumman; I have gained invaluable experience over two-10 months periods through this professional development opportunity. I look forward to implementing the skills I learned there in my professional career.

My internship at Northrop Grumman ran two summers. This 14-week period (yes 14 weeks of work during this summer) of software developing was both intensive and rewarding. My work mainly consisted of front-end development; I worked with a demo prepared by our agile team for late October. I am deeply grateful for this opportunity. Much of my education there this year proved to be a repeat of the work from my first-year. Therefore, I cannot say that my experience there this year lead to an increase of my knowledge. The opportunity to experience the field firsthand, however, was no less rewarding. I highly recommend this internship opportunity to any underclassmen interested in software development. My advice is upperclassmen and graduate student should pursue opportunities elsewhere since I would describe the tech-side of this government position as a bit “old-fashioned”.

My work was mostly in front-end development. In the future, I want to delve into more back-end development for the future. I am grateful for the opportunity to take part in a development team and learn how its organization functions.

CSS Team Leader, Immanuel Garcia

Scholar Testimonials

Jovany Joya
Class of 2018

I truly believe that the CSS program has granted me with everything I need to be successful in school and in life as well. Without this program, I honestly feel that I would be struggling in school. But thanks to the brotherhood and resources that are provided to us, I am able to soar for achieving greatness. CSS has helped me develop into a more sophisticated, dedicated, and well-rounded man. I am thankful for having the opportunity to be in such a great program with other great scholars and a great director, Dr. Lester. I expect nothing but the best in the future for me and those in the program and I owe it all to this one-of-a-kind program–College Success Scholars.
