Internship Highlight–Andrew Tawiah

Posted by Christopher Lester

My name is Andrew Tawiah. I am a senior and I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government & Politics major with a minor in General Business.  I plan to pursue law school upon graduation. I also have an interest in politics.  During my freshman year I interned for the Chris Van Hollen’s campaign for Senate.  I spoke to hundreds of voters on behalf of the representative, which ultimately led to his election in the U.S. Senate in 2016.  I enjoyed helping a winning campaign, and this experience led me to apply for a summer associate position with Mayson-Dixon Strategic Consulting.

This summer I interned at Mayson-Dixon Strategic Consulting in Bowie Maryland. I enjoyed my experience overall because the work that I completed was used to improve internal and external operations.  Mayson-Dixon is a young political consulting firm that provides non-profit organizations, political candidates, and businesses with communication and fundraising strategies for success.

During my internship this summer, I served as an assistant to political candidates.  I was tasked with identifying strategies for political campaign.  I completed donor research for political candidates in Maryland; which resulted in the election of 80% of the clients.  Also, I created detailed profiles on Maryland city council members and potential donors to be used for fundraising contacts.  Through this internship I gained a new appreciation for the importance of research, as well as relationships between individuals and organizations.

Scholar Testimonials

Elias Yishak
Class of 2017

CSS has been a blessing to me ever since the first day when I interviewed for this program over the summer going into my freshman year. This program has given me a cohort of brothers that I have been lucky enough to go through college with. As I have aged, CSS has also given me the opportunity to pass down my knowledge to the younger generation. This is what I feel the program really is about. When I was a freshman, I looked up to the upperclassmen as my mentors. I tried to do what they did to achieve success like they did. Now I hope the younger generation looks up to me the same way.
