College Success Scholars Annual Gala Spring 2013

College Success Scholars Annual Gala Spring 2013

The College Success Scholars Program provides structured personal, academic, and professional support to Black and Latino males at the University of Maryland to ensure that scholars have the opportunity to become fully engaged in all aspects of university life and are able to succeed academically, personally, and professionally.

Our goals are to close the achievement gap and help each scholar stay the course and graduate from college.

To achieve these goals, we offer:

  • A six-week summer seminar for entering freshmen
  • A CSS first-year student seminar
  • A professional development series
  • Study sessions and tutoring
  • Diversity and leadership workshops
  • Mentoring

Essential to the success of each of our scholars is family involvement, and in every cohort our parents are engaged and support these goals. See the parent page for more information.

Scholar Testimonials

Patrick Williams
Class of 2011

Participating in the College Success Scholars program was the single most influential experience during my time as an undergraduate at the University of Maryland. Dr. Lester and the staff of OMSE pushed and inspired me to attain heights and successes that I would have never actualized or even conceived on my own. I became a better student as well as an empowered man through this program. I gained the confidence and support that I needed to achieve great things in our world. I will do everything within my power to ensure that young men continue to benefit from this phenomenal program.
